WASHINGTON, D.C. – Citing concerns over the ability of small communities in Wyoming to comply, U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) released the following statement today after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its maximum contaminant level for PFAS in drinking water.
The EPA announcement sets the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for two of the best-studied and most prevalent per – and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water, PFAS and PFOS at four parts per trillion.
“The importance of keeping Wyoming’s drinking water safe cannot be understated, and I support creating a standard for PFAS and PFOS levels in drinking water, but I have significant questions about the standard released by the EPA,” said Senator Lummis. “Are these treatment levels even technically reachable and who will pay the cost of compliance? Taxpayers, ratepayers or those responsible for pollution? Before this standard is implemented, the EPA must answer these and other questions.”
