Lummis protects bipartisanship & rights of the minority as Senate filibuster comes under attack
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) voted with all of her Republican Senate colleagues and Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to protect the Senate filibuster. The filibuster is a rule used to promote bipartisan discussion on legislation and amendments before the Senate. It requires that 60 senators agree to end debate and allow a bill to pass the Senate.
“The effort to get rid of the legislative filibuster was nothing more than an attempted power grab by Democrat leadership. The filibuster is an important tool used by both parties to make sure the voice of the minority isn’t trampled by the will of the majority. This is a particularly important rule for states with smaller populations, like Wyoming, because it helps to level the playing field and empower their representatives.
“President Biden and Majority Leader Schumer put progressive priorities over what is best for the Senate and the American people. Thankfully, a majority of senators worked together to protect the institution of the Senate and the will of Americans in Wyoming and across the country.”
